A New Temple: Nurtured by Devotees, Shared by All
The Sree Guruvayoorappan Ayyappan Temple (SGAT), the joint abode of Sree Guruvayoorappan and Sree Ayyappan, would be the first new Hindu temple to be built in Singapore, in more than two decades.
The temple’s architecture, sanctum design and tantric ritual practices will faithfully follow to traditional Kerala tantric traditions, offering devotees an authentic spiritual experience deeply rooted in the sacred heritage of Kerala, South India.
At the heart of the temple is the ascent of the Holy 18 Padis (Steps) leading to the main Ayyappan sanctum, a spiritual journey cherished by devotees.

An Authentic Spiritual Experience

Rooted in Sacred Tantric Ritual Traditions
Whilst most Hindu temples in Singapore follow the Agama Shastra, SGAT would be rooted in unique, elaborate and, time-honoured Kerala Tantrika Shastra traditions. Every ritual and spiritual practice would be conducted with precision, preserving sanctity, continuity, and deep reverence. Devotees of Sree Guruvayoorappan and Sree Ayyappan would experience the same poojas and rituals as performed in their original temples in India — bringing an unparalleled sense of authenticity to worship in Singapore.

A Sacred Union of Two Revered Deities
SGAT draws inspiration from the renowned Hindu temple in Mahalingapuram, Chennai, where the two revered deities – Sree Guruvayoorappan and Sree Ayyappan are enshrined side by side. Our temple in Singapore would faithfully mirror this unique arrangement, offering devotees of both deities a shared spiritual space for unified and meaningful worship.

Singapore’s First Kerala-Style Temple Architecture
The temple would showcase distinctive Kerala-style architecture — simple, elegant, and spiritually immersive. Designed to feel warm and welcoming, the structure would reflect both tradition and practicality.
This iconic space would symbolise celebration of our rich cultural diversity, offering a devotional experience deeply rooted in heritage, sacred lineage, and timeless spiritual values.

Recreating the Sabarimala Pilgrimage in Singapore
SGAT would feature the sacred 18 steps (Pathinettampadi) leading to the sanctum of Sree Ayyappan. These steps would be opened only on designated days, allowing devotees to ascend with the traditional Irumudi, just as in Sabarimala. This initiative provides an opportunity for the elderly, the less fortunate, and those unable to travel to India to fulfil their spiritual vows within Singapore.

Thoughtfully Designed Sanctum and Prayer Spaces
Every aspect of the temple would be designed to foster focus, peace, and spiritual connection. The sanctum and prayer areas would encourage quiet solitude, mindfulness, and a deeper engagement with the divine. The spaces would also accommodate communal gatherings and rituals, supporting the growing community of devotees of Sree Guruvayoorappan and Sree Ayyappan in Singapore.
Complementing the Presiding deities, are:

Sree Ganapathi
Son of Sree Shiva and Sree Parvathi, Remover of obstacles and helps in one’s spiritual journey.

Sree Bhagavathi
The embodiment of Durga Shakthi (divine energy).

A Complete Spiritual Experience
The presiding deities of the temple are:

Sree Ayyappan
The son of Sree Shiva and Sree Vishnu, worshipped at the Sabarimala Temple in Kerala, one of the world’s largest annual pilgrimages.

Sree Guruvayoorappan
Sree Vishnu in the form of a child, Sree Krishna. The Guruvayoor Temple in Kerala, India, is one of the most famous and revered Vaishnavite temples in the world.
